You have to set limits for yourself. Don't smoke when you have things that need to get done. Smoke after, and use it to motivate yourself if you have to. I find that it's more satisfying to do it after finishing a task than it is to smoke first and then half-ass said task. And not smoking before going to work was an essential change for me.

All this. I do all this though sometimes I slip up. This is the best way to handle it. I used to smoke before work and after a while I realized it was a bad idea and not fair to my employers, coworkers, and customers.
