They themselves have already described their relationship as a bad marriage, and have been "separated" at times in the past. I doubt it's "good for them" in any way. More like an incredibly toxic co-dependent relationship.

For whatever reason, they seem like they've come to the conclusion that neither of them really want to be together (they've said as much in the past), but they're also not willing to get divorced, so they just do their own thing and make PR appearances together.

No idea if it's a financial issue, or a religious issue, or something else, but it sounds like a compromise that doesn't really make either of them all that happy.
