This happens every time a shitposter leaves. PotD is like an abused girlfriend over-romanticizing the good times they had with their ex. For the first week or two after, you get tons of topics talking about them.

It goes away eventually, though. The more you get used to the shitposter being gone, the less you notice, and the less you bring it up.

And then maybe one every few months or so someone will go "Hey, I wonder what Erik is doing now" or the like, then a bunch of people will be nostalgic for about 5 minutes, and then everyone goes back to not remembering they exist again.

The thing with Duckbear is that he was an incredibly prolific spammer, so you kind of get used to the idea of him being a major part of the board (unless you were smart enough to throw him on ignore). But time will forget him just like it forgot pretty much everyone else.
