No desire is a stretch, but it has clearly never been a priority for him. He hates him alright, but the idea that he not only wanted him dead but also absolutely had to do it himself even if it was extremely likely to cost him his own life is very forced and makes any development of his kinda pointless.

I don't understand how people thought Cleganebowl was visually interesting. The Mountain was like a target dummy that doesn't move or take any damage. The Hound was apparently finding some kind of emotional resolution through it all but it felt like a fight with one participant.
