Nah; we know several politicians that have done worse and are still in office or still supported. They'll just support their own no matter what, until the moment it's not beneficial for them to do so (and often even then). It's not about morals or platforms; it's about control and winning.

In this case it's more about humiliation than showing that they've done anything "bad". These are people who pride themselves on the appearance of legitimacy while acting in bad faith.
