No.

a burger is cooked and then assembled and eaten.

with a patty melt the beef patty is cooked, the sandwich is then assembled and its fried in butter.

a patty melt has cooked onions and American cheese. A burger can have whatever kind of cheese/toppings.

a patty melt is almost always served on rye, occasionally sourdough. Again a burger can be on pretty much any kind of bread or bun.

They are not the same.

I said they were pretty similar. Not the same. Even Rev said pretty much the same thing. Which is not saying its the same thing. But they are pretty similar. The bread and cooking methods are the things that are different Which I said

For toppings, you can have whatever you want on both. I get Patty melts without onions all the time. And you can get those same caramelized onions on a burger if you want. If youre making them at home, you can add whatever toppings you want to both

And as for bread, I cant say. I always get it on Texas Toast. Where burgers are usually a bun

I stand by what I said. They are not the same, but very similar
