Last book I read?
Babylon: Mesopotamia and the Birth of Civilization. It was an excellent read, and shed a lot of light on the area's history (ending at the conquest of Babylon by Cyrus the Great. The epilogue tracks the city's slow decline and eventual abandonment.)

I'm currently reading The Invisible Bridge: The Fall of Nixon and the Rise of Reagan by Rick Perlstein. The title comes from something Nikita Khruschev said to Nixon: "If the people believe there's an imaginary river out there, you don't tell them there's no river. You build an imaginary bridge over the imaginary river." Reading the chapter on the intense backlash to desegregate schools and introduce more multicutural material was quite uncomfortable, because of how closely it mirrored the CRT delusion.

I can neither confirm nor deny this.
