Stay away from anything that's too public or too fanboyish, and you'll generally have a pretty good experience there. I used to subscribe to like a dozen different boards and they were all relatively awesome. Then you'd go to one of the boards recommended by the main page and it would feel like your brain was trying to eat itself. If you know what you're doing, Reddit is probably the best general social media site out there right now.
