I also quit the game for a long time on the basilisk stage. Basilisk are 100% the worst enemy to fight followed by the pumpkin head guys. Luckily you can manipulate who the basilisk targets to ensure it isn't your party leaders by changing your formation. And a golem team actually uses them as a power up.

Having gone back and played through the whole thing a couple years ago it was such fun. A remake could easily make some positive changes though. It needs an option to speed up time on the field and a quicker to navigate UI. Also something to make it easier to change/control alignment without using the item dup glitch. There are also some mechanics that are just overly complicated like the secret Chaos Frame stuff.

First game I've ever beaten and immediately stared playing again though.
