I wouldn't try to make them feel like a failure for caring though, and I do sympathize with it. Which is exactly why I want them to learn how to stop caring about things they shouldn't care about. I'm not saying it's wrong to care or that they should feel bad about caring, I'm saying they should put in the effort to stop caring about about what some asshole says because they really don't matter.

What would you tell you kid, buddy, niece/nephew, etc. if someone came up to them and called them a stupid piece of shit loser? I would tell them fuck that guy, their opinion doesn't matter at all and you are great so don't let it get to you
