Prob the african lion's wild numbers are easily the largest. Do you think they may disappear from the wild in the next 50 yrs or so? They will not dissapear in so short a time. But their presence outside of protected areas keeps plummeting. Some estimates put their numbers at 30,000 down from 200,000 decades ago. The Amur tiger will be fine. There is a greater awareness of their plight than pretty much any other animal. Also, 95% of their population is contiguous, which reduces inbreeding. The Bengal tiger is also on the upswing. Problem is they are in reproductively isolated units. Depending on how serious India is about creating wildlife corridors, we will see which way their fortunes swing. --- FlowerBridge ...
