But I think Juneteenth is an odd name. I understand that it comes from the day that the union army arrived in Texas to announce the emancipation proclamation.

Why make the holiday June 19th around that one specific announcement, and not the day the emancipation proclamation was signed? I can see why they wouldn't want to double up with New Years Day, but why not the day it was announced in another state, why Texas?
Texas was the last stop for the Union Army to tell the Confederates the Emancipation Proclamation made their slaves free.
