We are seeing a shift in that though. Something like Thor Ragnarok received a lot of critical acclaim, in part because the thesis was "society is built on sin and atrocity and is incurable while preserving the glorification of the past".

I'd argue that aspect of the film wasn't even remotely the reason why it got critical acclaim, and that the sort of people who focus on that as a core theme are generally terrible people with way too much time on their hands (and fortunately, in the vast minority).
