I rewatched Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits this weekend. It isn't the greatest anime ever, but I enjoyed it a lot for what it is. Aoi, a woman who can see ayakashi spirits, gets kidnapped to the hidden realm to marry an ogre god. But she's like 'hell no' and opens a restaurant instead. I love her as a protagonist. I also appreciate how this anime mixes various subgenres without getting bogged down by any of them. Like, she's cooking all the time but I'd never call it food porn. There's a romance angle, almost a love triangle, but Aoi is such a strong character that she isn't defined by her suitors and there's never any real drama there. Kakuriyo has flaws, mainly in the relatively cheap production at times, but I like how relaxing it is.
