One of the most common social engineering tactics is figuring out the passwords to your various online accounts (email, social media, banking). Security has become increasingly idiot-proof to combat this, but nothing is ever truly idiot proof.

Another thing is if you let people know you'll be out of town on social media, and the same audience who sees that post knows where you live, they now know the perfect time to break into your house and steal all your shit.

And also just generally doxxing is a thing that exists. If people get your address or phone number they can fuck you up in all sorts of ways.

Hell, some guy on this very site had someone track down his girlfriend and tell her he planned to propose to her. Ended up ruining the whole relationship.
what? that happened on this site? but why would he do that?
