If you're in the Southern Shelf it is understandable. The starting area of BL2 is super boring for new players or veterans on an 'N'th playthrough.

At least once you reach the mainland on a new character there are some fun loot opportunities. You can get COMs on the pipes that overlook where Claptrap's ship docks, including some wonky minimum level COMs with zero skill bonuses but maxed out(for their level) passives. For Maya you should be able to get 50%+ Cat Coms, which mesh well with the Lascoux for burst damage.

There is a Dook Hut hidden on the ridge behind Fishguts Camp; the camp is near where you repair the Catch-A-Ride Station. Head towards the cliff then turn to the right and follow the ramp. This hut is a higher level than the immediate area.

There is also the entire optional spot of the Dry Docks. Enemies there are level 12 or 13 IIRC, making them 'skull' enemies when you first arrive. It is nothing a Jakobs can't fix though. Here you can find RPGs and decently leveled loot for the early zones. There are several chests and a Dook Hut to raid.

For BL2 any Bandit or Torgue launcher with a Maliwan exhaust will serve well. Okay, in the case of Torgue you probably also want a Tediore scope or matching Torgue grip just to cut down on the otherwise horrendous reload times.
