Paradise Killer's vocalist is still not a convincing match for city pop. Good voice, weird application. Maybe it's in the mixing? [9.5] If I were to compile a toplist of my favorite Sonic series tracks, this would definitely be up there, alongside the entirety of Sonic R and Shuffle, Adventure et al. Unleashed remains one of the most (if not the most) ambitious Sonic projects, and that star shines especially bright in the soundtrack. GAMELAN is one of the best instruments and it's consistently, ominously rolling in the back of the arrangement. Of particular note, the piano break at 1:35-- pay close attention when that starts because it's so easy to get lost in the visceral soundscape of this track. Though I wouldn't have it any other way, the sensation of being hopelessly, disorientingly lost in a sprawling jungle labyrinth, forged by the inconceivable hands of nature, is so expertly communicated here.
