Idk, might be a bottom 5 MCU movie. Really did not enjoy it for long stretches. Definitely picked up in the second half, liked the B+W sequence, but... eesh. The humour wasn't even hit and miss, it was miss and miss and miss and then one hit and then miss a few more times. Think I laughed three or four times, and not even like a full laugh, which for a movie with that volume of jokes isn't good.
I felt borderline insulted by it really. It's a difficult thing to explain but it was so determined not to take itself seriously at all that I was like "then why the fuck should I care?" and that works if I'm watching like Scary Movie but sue me for actually having some level of investment
I disagree only in that they did want you to take it seriously, but only on your terms. Like when the movie slows down, it's completely unearned of any respect because it treats it like a clown carnival the rest of the time. Like fuck you when you want to slow the movie down to have the most shallow discussion of love between Thor and Jane. Or you expect us to tragically be shocked that Jane may be dying because the hammer that's trying to protect her is inexplicably killing her now. And absolutely fuck you when you have an army of children clowning on all of Gorr's creations because Thor can just give people his power now, and then want us to be sad at Jane's noble sacrifice and discussion about love that barely makes any sense.
Thor characters have so much more depth to them than they were allowed to have here. They just refuse to let them have any serious discussions or anything to challenge their characters. Just an utterly shallow film in every way when you have fucking Gorr in it who is anything but.
