#19 Detective Chimp (Bobo T. Chimp)
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/3/8/AAOJ0pAADbim.png
In our campaign is Oblivion Bar, host to the Shadowpact, a wide range of masters of magic. John Constantine, Enchantress, Nightshade, Nightmaster, Ragman, Arion, The Phantom Stranger. But this motley crew needs a leader. Someone who commands respect of every room they enter. Someone nobody will doubt. A master of magic among masters of magic.

Who else but Detective Chimp. He's certainly not the one I would have guessed, but in a weird way he's perfect. More than anything, the leader of the Shadowpact needs to be able to put up with these personalities, and Bobo T. Chimp finds everything human (and human-like) obnoxious to begin with, so really, how much worse is John Constantine than your average one? It's all about perspective.

On top of that, he has great chemistry with so many. Most of all is his status as sort of an uncle to Data 7, allowing Data 7 to find a kindred spirit to be unhappy about humans with, and someone whom he is comfortable being more of a pup with, as Chimp serves as Data's window into the world of magic that entrances him so, even if it comes with Chimp's disgusting habit of putting cigarettes into beer. Really, Chimp, that's just wrong.

This is not to say Bobo is only particularly a Data character. He and Roz'etta have found a bit of an understanding, as on the board of missions to go on include Gorilla City , to meet with Gorilla Grodd, and if she's going to shapeshift into a gorilla, she needs someone to teach her how to be one. That duty falls on Chimp, who has not only ensured Roz'etta looks the part, but also for her to get all the small details of gorilla culture correct. Expressions, how to walk, how to talk, and most of all, how to talk to Grodd. For it will not be enough to be a gorilla, it's being one that can at least get on Grodd's good side enough to make a bargain. I love characters who grant an insight into the cultures scarlet has made for the campaign's world, and Chimp is my source for the world of the apes. All this, while he makes sure to tell Roz'etta he sees her as no different than any other human. It's not meant to be a compliment, but still, if you weren't worth Chimp's time, he'd let you know.

And I would be lying if I said Chimp didn't have a large impact on how I see Roz'etta's daily life. In order to learn, she and Chimp determine documentaries would help her get a start, and now documentaries are not just part of her regular life, but also Susie's. When it's time to go to bed, I see Roz'etta and Susie putting on a documentary and curling up. This little thing says so much about how Roz'etta is as a person, to me. Even when she's doing something to relax with her daughter, it's for a practical purpose. She's always trying to learn, always trying to be better at something, and that aspect of her character found a way to shine through, due to Chimp.

Chimp is such a fixture in the campaign, he's one of the characters I'm really just not sure if I can picture without him in his booth, with his disgusting beer and his menus. And it's always easy to picture one of the PCs sitting across from him under a dim lamp, straight out of a 1950s movie. You might even be able to put any character across from him, PC or NPC, and have it work. That might be Chimp's value to the campaign more than anything.

Hint for #18: The Shade wears mostly black. This character also mostly wears black.

Not a stinky alien. :(
