Taken in by a girl who reminds him of someone, he strives to learn who he is while uncovering the islands mysteries. The Good: Island is based on a visual novel, and I think Id probably enjoy that VN a lot. It has elements of things that I usually enjoy, like amnesia and weird mysteries. Despite its many, many problems, the ending of Island still kind of got to me, too. I can only imagine how much more impactful it wouldve been if the road leading to it had been smoother. The Bad: I remember people complaining when this was airing that it was an awful adaptation, cutting important things and rushing through everything. I believe that, because for most of Island I was struggling to keep up. Its a story thats all about folklore and great families and little hints towards bigger mysteries. When done well, the conclusion of such stories can be epic. When done poorly, they become jumbled messes, and thats what Island turned into. Overall: There were hints of greatness in Island, but they were smothered by a poor adaptation. I cant say anything for sure since I havent played the visual novel, but this felt like a story that needed at least 24 episodes to be told well. As it stands, Island is a confusing waste of time.
