i dont get it

The Christmas season is an odd time for me. I'm neither excited nor excited. I suppose I have seen myself from the corner of my eye in my youth, but I still see myself from the center, and for the most part, I don't like what I see. And as you're well aware, we all know the old "Christ, what am I doing here?" moment when we realise we're in the midst of another holiday.

And I've always wondered why, in the name of all that is holy, when Christmas has come around again and again, have we not just figured out how to fix the thing? There are ways of fixing it, but what's the point? It seems like we all know we're doing it wrong, but no one wants to do anything about it.

This year, I didn't know what to think. And then, this morning, I heard my friend the Reverend Bill Murray tell me that Christmas isn't about me, it's about the man in the Christmas story, who wasn't a god, who didn't have a life to lead but who still got a thing going, a special thing that meant everything to the Romans.

And he said it in the context of the birth of Jesus, not the Christmas story as such. I can't think of a better way to put it, and so I hope you'll take a minute to think of it yourself.
