Rock and metal aren't my personal favorite genres (ironically enough), but I do often enjoy them. Now that's an interesting question - while the 80s are my favorite decade for music in general, most of my favorite artists went by solo billing and/or didn't get started in the 80s. My answer isn't very interesting, though; Tears for Fears is my favorite band in general, with a hefty nostalgia assist in that they've shaped my tastes in music.
