(Wii) Haunting Ground Where's Waldo: As a kid, my dad refused to get his hair cut by anyone except this one woman he knew, who lived aross town. He still gets his hair cut by her exclusively even thirty years later, but the point is that I had to drive with him an hour each way and sit in the building for two hours or something while they cut and talked, and since this was before cell phones, the only entertainment I had was that she had some Where's Waldo and Goofus and Gallant books. So, in short, Where's Waldo is burned into my mind. I wasn't always able to find his friends, like the dog or the evil Waldo. Saga of the Swamp Thing Futurama Berserk Allison Road (Video Game) Marvel vs Capcom Devilman Crybaby Avatar: The Last Airbender Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart The Last of Us Part II Okami Kirby and the Forgotten Land Kirby's Dream Buffet Final Fantasy (Yoshitaka Amano) Library of Ruina Yazuka X-Men: The Animated Series: It's shocking how seriously this show takes itself, how the art tries to actually look good and comic-y, and how the characters are in their 20s and 30s, save for Jubilee. Along with Batman TAS, this is basically the only good early comic show. No More Heroes Resident Evil 4 Sonic Mania Devil May Cry 3 Shadow of the Beast (Amiga) Garfield Minus Garfield Where Winds Meet Mega Man X: I feel like I sort of have to put MM and MMX together. MMX definitely has better robot masters and a better version of Proto Man, but MM's design is much better than X's. Besides, MM also has a special place in my nostalgic heart for the early 2000s webcomic Bob and George, which I read before ever touching a MM game. Mega Man (Original): I will gladly grant that MM7 is not very good, but it's definitely the best-looking classic MM game. I know the sprite is too big for the screen, but it's got the detail and face just right, whereas like MM8 is ugly and the NES ones are a little too primitive. A lot of robot masters are lame, but they're the kind of classic, good, 80s/90s type of lame, so it's fine. MM has maybe the strongest music of any game series, by the way. Valkyrie Profile Watchmen Dilbert 2 and 3 Going to the Store Coraline Zork Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Witches only) God of War (2018) Primal The Addams Family (1992) Marvel's Spider-Man (Insomniac) My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Shadows of the Damned: I can't really define it, but this horror-action shooter has a weird style to itself. I wouldn't really call it very good? But it is unique and weird and kind of cool, so I'll give it some credit on that front. The skull gun is really dumb, though. Avatar (James Cameron) C Tier Calvin and Hobbes Grand Theft Auto V: Man, remember GTA3 being controversial? Remember the hot coffee scene? Now you can go on Steam and just buy something like Furry Cyber****er 2. There's something to PS1-era sprite games, because they're in the era of when 3D was hot and new and everyone wanted to do it, so you knew that any sprite-based game was trying to do something artistic. That said, I think that a lot of sprite talent just evaporated in the late 90s, because after some point, all of the AAA sprite games just became bad? They sort of recovered, but even now, sprites in AAA really only exist for beat-em-ups and certain fighting games. I wonder what a true attempt at going maximum high-quality spritework in the modern era would look like? Like, not SNES-looking games, but an actual attempt at something that takes advantage of modern technology.
