Story wise, it's the perfect combination of military propaganda and adolescent male fantasy. I feel like it's the first time in a while a movie has been so obvious and upfront in its intentions to purposefully fail the Bechdel test and uplift a white male hero without any sort of subtlety or character flaws, so I'm not surprised a bunch of men's rights activists and magats are into it. I'm not surprised it's making a gazillion dollars. The question is if other blockbusters are going to follow suit. I think probably. Uh, Maverick very much has character flaws, and the focus of the whole plot is his place in the modern world.
