It was, to some extent, a very carefully polished and managed image. I still remember the news stories going around about how she'd always make sure all the lights were turned off at the palace when rooms weren't in use, presented as a green-conscious and concerned older head of the household at a time where energy prices were soaring and people were grappling with horrible inflation. It came across as very naked propaganda.

I don't live in the UK. I have no real attachment to her. There's a small bit of sadness because her long-lived reign ensured she was a figure straight out of living history and now she's gone. There was just a lot of bad stuff mixed in with her history.

Which is kinda why I don't really want to go to topics memorializing her death. Let people have their space for that stuff, I don't have the conceited desire to go piss on their parade. Time and place.
