Gaming is a very time consuming hobby, and it's easy to get absorbed and do it for long periods of time, which makes it easy to spend too much time on it. There are definitely a lot of people who would have better mental health if they cut their gaming time and spent more time with family / friends, or found other things to do in their time so their lives would be more balanced. I think that's what he was getting at with the "gaming is depression" line.
