#452:

With Pepper, honestly, I find those interactions fun (but by sheer virtue of all the plates Im spinning with Pepper, I havent had the chance to get more than a handful), because Pepper is so self-serious, and Patch is just not having any of that. He calls her out on her goo clumps, which are the solidified sweat drops that her weird, internal body chemistry leaves lying around Zonn Zorr. But dont worry; Patch has a solution; he drew designs up and everything. Yeah, Patch drew a napkin on a napkin; its just a squarebut its still somehow the funniest little quirk of how proud he is of his drawing. And you know what? It was kinda useful. Patch gave Pepper the idea for his Patchented Sock Napkins, which Ive actually had to use once to negate a Nat 1 on Peppers notoriously-bad sneaking. She even gave a sock napkin to Pixie as a gift, but Pixie wasnot amused.

Of course, all of this pales in comparison to Patchs relationship with Data, which is the focal point of Patchs story in the campaign. On Datas end of things, Data has developed a crush on his little rat best friend, and this has complicated matters, because is being a heartbreaker with Pixie (and Starro by proxy), while simultaneously cockblocking T.C. from either his fellow cat, or the prim and proper Pixie. All of this is because Data just wants to cuddle and snuggle and be with Patch, but isnt sure how to process his feelings, or even if his feelings should be acknowledged in favor of more natural boy/girl or dog/dog relationships. Of course, the fact that Data would so much as hint at loving a rat has driven Pixies character development, and she finds it appalling and disgusting that not only would a mighty warrior dog like Data defer to a rat, but lower himself to romancing such a lowly creature. Someone get Pixie a fainting couch, quick!

Beyond the relationship stuff (which you know is my jam), Data has pushed Patch into a leadership position to control the Big Troubles gang, and its really cute and sweet. This isnt a tough gang that actually accomplishes much (well, aside from Datas Christmas one-shot, where they found a missile and traded the missile to Miss Waller for a secret base in the steam valve assembly). Its mostly just Data trying to coerce Patch into doing stuff by calling him boss, but Patch takes his role very seriously and ultimately overrules some of the smarter efforts Data makes to control things in his favor. Patch is the one handling most of the tryouts for the team, and is actually taking it seriously, while Data plays favorites, for example. Its just amusing, because if you tell someone theyre the leader long enough, theyre going to start taking that seriously and doing what THEY want. Its just amusing to see an ego building in such a tiny creature.

Ultimately though, all of that is great, but its just a combination of everything we get from Patch that lands him so high on this list. His cute little non-sequiturs and inability to keep a secret because he blasts his thoughts out loud and proud and fun little character quirks, and it just brings a smile to my face whenever someone uses one of the two Patch emojis to indicate a direction that Patch is either pointing or reaching. Hes a vital part of the campaign, and makes for a solid mascot without any real drawbacks to his time.

Hint for #7: Has darker-colored hair.
