It depends on where you are but the fact that you recognize that it's primarily old people eating it: the primary base is aging out of being a customer. This holds true with tons of foods in tons of places. Like, stargazy pie is delicious, one of the few British things worth eating, and healthy. How many people do you think are actually continuing to eat it as its "a lot of old people eat this" was over 50 years ago?

That isn't that odd. People get into way too huffy a fit when people put ingredients onto something that they aren't used to. Honey really wouldn't be that out there and if you have a stronger meat, such as salami or pepperoni, it would work just fine. Honey ham is a thing for a reason.
