It's extremely unlikely that Putin will opt to use a nuclear weapon in Ukraine, it's far too risky, serves exactly no benefit for him, and would lead to his death and whatever would remain of Russia after the war would be split between the US, Europe, and China. Russia as a country would be a thing of the past.
