Fall 2018 (12 episodes)
My Score: 7/10, MAL Score: 6.89/10
Best Character: Hatoya Kohane

Premise: Hatoya Kohane loves helping people, so shes naturally drawn to cheerleading. Her relentless enthusiasm will need to overcome a lack of experience and a crippling fear of heights.

The Good: Anima Yell is a cute girls sports anime, and it handles both of those genres well. Cheerleading obviously isn't a typical sport, but it still requires a lot of training and there are techniques to learn. My favorite running gag was how, after a bunch of practice, the basic positions became second nature to the point where they instinctively made a High V whenever the position was called. The characters are all fun too. Kohane was my favorite because she was always full of cheerful energy and doing her best to help people. It was funny how often the others would see her as a hyperactive bird. Everyone had their moments, though. Uki looking after Kohane was cute, and her being afraid of ghosts was always fun. Hizume was terrified the others would quit if she was too harsh, and that trauma resurfaced in some surprisingly hilarious ways. Overall, this was also just a nice comfy anime about girls doing their best to get better at cheering people on. It wasnt always through cheerleading, either! In one episode, theyre asked to test the cooking clubs food, and in another they help the manga club stay awake. All of it was fun.

The Bad: Anima Yell gets a little repetitive at times. Kohanes fear of heights in particular kept popping up no matter what progress she seemed to make towards conquering it. Everyone could've used a bit more development, in my opinion. Still, I suppose this isn't the kind of anime for deep character arcs.

Overall: Anima Yell is a cute girls sports anime that was always uplifting. Watching Kohane bumble her way through cheerleading was a lot of fun, and I liked all the characters. They could've used more development, but they were also fine as they were with a lot if great running gags and heartwarming moments.
