10. Countdown (Netflix)

This movie is not a good movie, but somehow I enjoyed it a lot? That says a lot for the "evil haunted app" genre of films.

Countdown is about a girl who downloads an app that tells her she is going to die when the timer runs out, or else she's definitely going to die.

Yes, evil haunted app genre sucks like 95% of the time. But this one hits just a little bit differently. They're very well aware they're making a complete nonsense shitty evil haunted app movie and just take the piss out of it any time they can aside from moments of drama. It's this sort of levity I can appreciate here.

Oddly enough, the humor works well. I want to credit the actors and actresses involved, because they pushed through what feels like a very bad script and make something good out of it. In particular, Elizabeth Lail is our lead here, who you may remember from Dead of Summer or You Season 1, and she is a complete delight. Give me more of her in stuff please. What is her agent doing not throwing her at stuff after You became such a hit?

They do practical stuff like just try to hack the stupid app, which doesn't work, trying to do a spell to keep the demon away, which kind of works. But then it has some dog shit side story stuff like a perverted doctor who actually ends up factoring in a lot more somehow?

Please understand I am not speaking of this movie like it has any sort of quality--it doesn't. This movie does not work without this casting and what feels like a lot of ad libbed jokes that worked. But those jokes and being more self aware about this and not taking itself seriously makes for a good viewing experience. So yeah, if you want to see a dumb evil haunted app movie that you might actually have a fun time with, check it out.
