I've never heard anything particularly bad about it (unless it is just people disliking the winters?). I assume it is because it is all small/costal towns and no big cities. Hell, the biggest "city" in Maine only has a population less than 70K. Personally, I love that. I have gone their 3 times on vacation and I would love to retire there.
