To be fair, the concept of Hell exists in the real world as well, and most forms of Christianity accept the premise that if you sincerely repent for your sins before dying you still get to go to Heaven even if you were a total monster for decades.
Everyone always seems to think that Heaven is for good people - but it's really not (at least not according to the literal Bible). It's for people who place their full faith in Jesus to redeem them from their sins. Jesus is basically a Get Out of Hell Free card.
