Scarlett and the Red Pill tells the story of Scarlett, a trans woman's, medical transition. In order to portray an honest and beautiful portrayal of medical transition, I, Aidan Bose-Rosling, a pre-medical-transition trans woman, will film the movie over a period of between 2-4 years through which I shall be medically transitioning in real life & playing Scarlett at various points through her journey. (Think Richard Linklater's Boyhood but about medical transition, not growing up).

The story covers Scarlett realizing she is trans, rejection from her family and people in her life, her growth and relief of finally being herself, the struggles of transitioning, as well as the euphoria. The details of the plot will be influenced to some extent by my own experience of transition.

To my knowledge no one has ever made a narrative fiction film about medical transition, starring a trans woman, in which that woman transitions over the course of the movie.

I am a trans woman and a filmmaker and actor, and have been out socially for a number of years. With this film, I want to portray the extraordinary nature of transformation for trans people, not only the obvious physical changes, but the emotional changes and the visceral, powerful beauty of being free.

Given the huge structural obstacles and discrimination trans people face trying to medical transition, I want this project to both celebrate that journey and be truly extraordinary piece of transgender art.

Scarlett and the Red Pill will be a movie about a woman finding herself, even though through her journey many will abandon her for her truth.
I'll let Aidan do most of the talking (you can listen to her at the link, if you want to experience just how extremely British xe are).

Me, personally, as a trans woman? Everything Aidan says resonates with me: the right people to tell the story of transition are trans people. And the conceit that the main character's physical transformation will be mapped exactly to Aidan's IRL experience is, I think, uniquely compelling. It's frankly difficult to describe what HRT is like, but I think getting to see it in a real way might help. IMO, this is the kind of art that the world in general needs. And my community in particular could use it too.

Mod me if you must.
