On the contrary, coffee is a fruit-producing bush that makes edible cherry-like berries that are sweet and also contain caffeine. C. Arabica was native to the highlands of what are now Ethiopia and Sudan, and the plants were undoubtedly first utilized for the fruit: the beans came later.
