I never did quite understand try hard as a insult, lol. When my friends and I first heard it, it was during our gears of war ranked days. We used to squad up and just destroy a lot of other teams, but that is the entire point of playing ranked. In quickplay we will stay play to win but....not as serious I guess.

But yeah actually communicating and crossing dudes up (all this was in gears terms was just shooting at someone from two different directions with a lancer or hammerburst. Basically just playing the game with it's cover system as intended, lol) in gears of war 3 used to have dudes super heated and sending tons of hatemail.

Actually, just wall-bouncing well in gears can get you hatemail. Gears of war just had a very angry community in general.
