For the same reason society thinks you should only date people around your age, you have similar life, I mean dating experience and you can learn together at the same level. I mean no one says its written in stone, it just makes more sense then only dating people 1-3 years of your age because some obligatory number. this doesn't line up dating experience doesn't mean you will be more compatible, it really doesn't mean much at all like it is not like the more people you date the less of a jerk you become or that you stop being a misogynist and on and on age makes a little more sense as you both for example grew up loving pokemon in the 90s and stuff like that ...
