Eliminated: Kappn
Appearances: Ultimate

One of Animal Crossings many special NPCs, Kappn is a kappa who is skilled in transportation, but unlike Porter and Wilbur, he is not specialized to one specific vehicle. Emphasis on being a kappa, as despite the punny name, Nintendo of America insists on him being a turtle. Tom Nook faces the same issue, and is very much not a raccoon, but a tanuki. (While Animal Crossing does not have a turtle character (unless you count the ones you fish up), there does exist a tortoise character, Tortimer.)

The second game in the series, Animal Forest+, introduced a small island (which was nameable like the town, but canonically its known as Animal Island), unconnected to the main town, only accessible by connecting to a GBA with a special link cable. You got there via an old-fashioned boat, with Kappn rowing it. The link cable was no longer required in e+, although you still traveled there by Kappns boat. The island didnt return for future entries.

The next game, Wild World, had Kappn taking you to your new town via taxi upon creating a new character. He asked you questions that determined your gender and face, taking the position of Rover in the GameCube era. After he drops you off, you do not see him again, with a possible exception youd have to go out of your way to do. In the settings on the title screen, there was an option known as immigration. This allowed you to permanently move to another persons town, and when you did, an animation of your character entering the taxi and it shortly thereafter driving off played. This version of Kappn is available as a trophy in Brawl.

City Folk was mostly a Wii version of Wild World, although it mixed in some elements from the earlier games. Once again, Kappn is driving you to your new town, this time in a bus, although Rover is back to keep you company in the meantime. The titular City, mentioned several times in Wild World, can be visited via the bus, meaning Kappn has a regular role again.

Oddly enough, this is the version featured as the assist trophy in Ultimate. Kappn tries to drives you away in his bus, somewhat similar to the Boss Galaga item.

New Leaf brought many drastic alterations to the series, including a new art style. Kappn is back to having a boat, this time modernized with an engine. He takes you to a new island known as Tortimer Island, where Tortimer has retired to. His family was introduced in this game; his wife Leilani, his mother Grams, and his daughter Leila. They (and Tortimer) can sometimes be seen in the background of the Tortimer Island stage that debuted in For 3DS and returned in Ultimate, but only one at a time. Kappn can also be seen in this stage, by the docks. Theres another trophy of him in For 3DS, and For Wii U has a trophy of his City Folk bus.

Then, in New Horizons nothing! For whatever reason, the majority of Animal Crossings special NPCs were removed in New Horizons. The 2.0 update finally added the missing characters back, but most of them were downgraded to only being Roost invites. Kappn got lucky and was given a proper role. He is still a ship captain, and can take you on boat tours.

As a final note, Kappn is known for the sea shanties he sings and whistles. The aircheck version of Marine Song 2001, a K.K. Slider song, seems to have his vocals.

(Admittedly, I got very carried away with the description this time.

This means that Mr. Resetti is the final Animal Crossing character left. Also, I was wrong on him being the last Brawl exclusive, because Little Mac is still in.

Round 28 will happen tomorrow.)
