I don't entirely disagree.

I'd argue it's mainly the shift from the Internet being more of a "Wild West" where anything goes and there are tons of places where individuals can produce various types of content to a more homogenized utility where everything mostly feels consolidated and transformed into something more mainstream.

At least some of that might be because modern search engines are hot liquid ass-butter when it comes to finding stuff that isn't sponsored or on endorsed web sites, but part of it is just that a lot of the old school freeform content just isn't there anymore (and isn't an economically feasible model even if it is).

A lot of it depends on exactly what sort of content you're looking for, though. I'd say the average person never really thinks about things that way because they're happy enough with the more centralized and more sterile options available.
