with windows 10 or maybe even windows 8, windows replaced "shutdown" with "hibernate" but it wasn't clearly labelled, only people in the know knew. Ever since then, shutting down (by default) has been shit and usually rebooting fixes problems since a reboot does a full power down and then power on as opposed to the hibernate trash

You can disable "fast boot" or whatever to make shut down work like it should do again. Sleep mode theoretically works, but its unreliable for me. Sometimes the computer will wake itself up for some shitty reason. If its a laptop it will drain the batteries or overheat in my bag. I dont trust "sleep" ever since windows 7. give up on sleep. Just shut down the PC. if you want it to power on at a certain time, there is usually a setting in the BIOS to do that unless your PC is supremely cheap in which case it probably still does have the bios setting anyway
