The only reason they are distancing themselves from him is because the candidates he supported lost. It has nothing to do with him, his attitude, personality, policies, stance on anything, etc. They don't want to associate with somebody who lost and so they are distancing themselves. These people didn't suddenly wake up after 6 years and be like "Oh shit, he's really like that?"

Even if they don't chose Trump in the primary, they made it abundantly clear that they desire criminals to be their representatives. So many of the candidates they chose were people who just openly ran on committing voter fraud to help their guys win in the future.
