Since social security was supposed to be a pension system rather than just an extra tax, railroad employees pay into the railroad pension system rather than social security and don't have to pay into both.This still doesn't make sense to me. If they work 30 years in the railroad industry and 20 years elsewhere, how does that break down? Social security draws your top 35 working years to give you its payment. I have my own pension system?
