Stores that are game stores, tend to have it behind the counter. Stores that sell all kinds of electronics, tend to have it in plastic cases here.

I cannot speak about Walmart equivalents here, as we do not have anything like that.

I see Other than GameStop, I havent seen many store that sell just video games recently And while GameStop usually takes games out of the case, they dont always. Ive definitely gotten new games in plastic from them. They are behind the counter, though. But still new and in plastic The only ones that arent were the use ones, or older ones Other than that, most stores around here are stores that have more than games. So, the games are either in the open, locked in cases, or behind glass
