Reading through the blue books personal stories, it seems like most of the people started out drinking like we do, and it wasnt until ~10+ years that they got to that point.. obviously YMMV in your level of addiction, but what may seem completely unreasonable now (drinking in the morning / before work) can become easier for your brain to spin as a normal thing years down the road of continuous hard drinking. For me personally, I think having a job that keeps me physically active helps with not having too strong of an urge to drink during the day. I drink a lot of water too.
