| Topic | Director of Days Gone blames 'woke' reviewers on his game's failure |
| codey 12/07/22 12:34:20 PM #60: | Honestly, I do have a problem with the protagonist, and it is because he's the exact same generic self-insert gruff badass protagonist we've been getting for decades. No one serious has a problem with protags just because they're straight white males, it's because they're the SAME straight white male we've always got. I mean hell, Joel from The Last of Us is a straight white male and he's universally beloved to the point that half of the gaming turns their nose up at the sequel because Besides, some of the best reviewed games of 2019, the year Day's Gone came out, had white male protags. Jedi: Fallen Order, Disco Elysium, Metro Exodus, Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion, Death Stranding, and Link's Awakening all had white male protags, and no one complained. Why, even when some might be generic or non-characters? Because the actual games were good. Maybe when your game is riddled with bugs at launch people are more likely to be unforgiving to the other parts of the game that are lacking, like a boring MC. --- *runs out of topic naked* ...
