i thought the younger you are, the more tech literate you are

This idea that the younger generations are "tech literate" originated from baby boomers that didn't have the savvy to understand that some millennials were learning computer skills and maybe some coding while being exposed to video games and the modern form of the internet, which certainly doesn't envelop all technology.

I work in video game advertising and it's unbelievable how clueless many 18- to 35-year-olds are when it comes to troubleshooting basic device issues. Just yesterday I had three people approach me because one of our computers lost its network connection and I had to contact IT immediately so they could continue working; not a single one had the idea to check the back of the machine to realize that the ethernet cord was disconnected.

Now you have to understand that kids and adolescents are growing up in a world that further discourages them from being able to problem solve on their own.
