If you skip getting one because you chose a different path, that does NOT count towards your limit of 2 and they will eventually show back up again (probably, the RNG can be a bit odd). So if you have a choice between like a Hammer, a god boon that you need to make your build, or a Chaos Gate you can safely take either not-Hammer option without it crippling you later --- If it was about babies we'd have universal maternal care.
