Even the most popular shows ever made today are incredibly lucky if they manage 10 million viewers. The most successful ones top out around 15 million at most.

There are a LOT more than 10-15 million people in the world.

Generally speaking, even the most popular shows have vastly more people who have never and will never see them than people who have.

Don't let the illusion of the vocal minority on the Internet fool you - it's more likely to seem like everyone is watching the same things if you mostly stick to niche social circles, or just judge from reactions on Twitter or the like. But it's not really true.

The entire concept of shared pop culture is slowly dying, and is likely to fade even more in the future. Multiple streaming services and alternative media distribution channels almost guarantee people will have fewer and fewer entertainment experiences in common over time.

Which is going to have an interesting result when it comes to the monetization of nostalgia.
This is a fantastic point. My consumption of television may have declined to 0 over the past decade but my consumption of Youtube content (talkies and live content) has skyrocketed since 2020.

In the early years of the Internet, there were studies done that implied about 80% of Internet usage was for porn. That's almost certainly changed in the social media era, but porn is still a huge aspect of the Internet's core purpose.
The desensitization of the past couple of generational cohorts to porn because of the internet is absolutely important. Sex has changed completely because of how we perceive it. My comments are mainly geared towards the fact I have a feeling he was moderated for saying that he was doing / supporting things that are not culturally acceptable. Kinda like a taboo subject to talk about in a community like this.

Personally, I'd argue that political discussions aren't appropriate long before I'd argue that sex isn't. Because at least talking about sex doesn't have huge negative real world repercussions.
Political discussion is a joke in general. About as much of a joke as religion.

Its not the vocal minority on the internet. Its how I cant go anywhere IRL or talk to anybody IRL who hasnt seen certain shows
I don't think I've talked with coworkers about television shows since before the pandemic. Most I've talked about is maybe baseball, but I doubt most people are invested in baseball as I am and I watched maybe half of the Red Sox games last season.

Whenever someone sings fansa and they don't input their name instead of mona at the mona-beam part I'm like "Are you even a real aidoru?".
