Sort of, yes. The main difference is how far some people will go to distance slavery from other things through whataboutisms. Obviously we still have prison-based slavery even today, but for some that isn't good enough. In this case it is purely chattel slavery that no one can actually deny it being the case beyond just flat out denying that recorded history actually occurred at all. And while it is certainly possible that chattel slavery still exists in some locations in the US, there are no extremely documented cases that I am aware of.
