Using dogs for protection is a bad idea and immoral.

Just having a dog already makes you more protected, since they act as an alarm system. But other than that, get a gun if you really need to be protected. At least a gun can't make the wrong call on it's own. You shouldn't allow any living thing to become aggressive without attempting intervention.

You know whats fucked though is how many people own guns that are legit less qualified to weild the power to maim or kill someone than some dogs are. Its not a huge percentage but its far larger than ideal. At least speaking for the US and Canada as well for that matter.
